Kashi Vishwanath Tirthyatra

Kashi Vishwanath Temple in the Vishwanath Galli of Varanasi by the western bank of the sacred river Ganga. Sri Kashi Vishwanath is one of teh tree presiding Deities of Kashi or Varanasi. The Kashi Vishwanath Temple is the icon of cultural & religious history of Sanatana Dharma. It is the pinnacle of one’s life. Every citizen born in the holy city of India wants to visit Kashi and touch the sacred Vishwanatha Linga in the Kashi Vishwanath Temple.

The temple house the Jyotirilinga among the Dwadasha Jyotirlinga of India. Jyotitlingas are those lingas of Lord Shiva where he personally appeared as a column of light. Being a Jyotirlingas, the temple attains prominence amongst the temples of Lord Shiva as well as in Varanasi.

The Current temple was built in 1780 by Maharani Ahalya Bai Holkar of Indore. The temple has been demolished many times by Muslim kings and then rebuilt. The temple has been mentioned in the Vedic literature especially the kahsi Khanda of the Skanda Purana.

Vindhyachal Tirthyatra

The literal meaning of word ‘Vindhyachal’ (Vindhya + Achal) is ‘Mountain (Achal) named Vindhya’, and literal meaning of ‘Vindhyavasini’ is ‘Goddess having dwelling in Vindhya Mountains’.

Lord Ram had visited this place and surrounding areas, along with wife Sita and brother Lakshman in his period of exile. The places Sita Kund, Sita Rasoi, Ram Gaya Ghat, Rameshwar temple are a testimony to the journey of this great Hero of Humanity to this divine place.

The Place Vindhyachal, as well as Goddess Vindhyavasini, has been liberally mentioned in many ancient scriptures of India. Some of them are Mahabharat, Vaaman Puran, Markandeya Puran, Matsya Puran, Devi Bhagavat, Harivansh Puran, Skand Puran, Raja Taranginee, Brihat Katha, Kadambaree and many Tantra scriptures.The very famous war between Goddess Durga and Demon King Mahishasur, which has very deeply spiritual, metaphysical as well as contemporary meanings, is supposed to have occurred at Vindhyachal. This is the reason that another name of Goddess Vindhyavasini is ‘Mahishasur Mardini’ (Killer of Demon Mahish– Literal Meaning Buffalo, since Mahishasur used to take the guise of a Buffalo). So, next time, in Durga Puja festival or anywhere else, you see the image of Goddess Durga killing Demon Mahishasur, just remember that this great war happened at Vindhyachal; and the temple of Vindhyachal commemorates this great victory of divine female power over malefic forces of the society.

Maihar Dham Tirthyatra

Maa Maihar Devi Dham Temple is situated on Trikut mountain in Satana district of Madhya Pradesh. Every day thousands of devotees come from far and wide to visit this temple.
Especially during Navratri in the month of November, there is a huge crowd here. Fairs are also held here at that time.

A grand and beautiful temple is situated on the high peak of Chitrakoot mountain in Maihar in Satana district of Madhya Pradesh, which is dedicated to Mother Sharda. This temple is also known as Maihar Wali Maa.

According to mythological beliefs about the history of this temple, it is said that wherever the body parts of Mata Sati had fallen, Shakti Peetha was established there and one of those Shaktipeeths is the holy abode of Maa Sharda. 51 such Shaktipeeths have been established.
